For our pop art assignment, we took a regular photo and manipulated it to look totally different than the original. Copying Andy Warhol's design, we changed the photo's threshold, copied it four times, and then changed the colors of all of them to create the desired effect. In this assignment, I was introduced to photoshop on a beginner's level. I learned how to crop a photo, change a threshold. and mess around with the hue and saturation of a picture. I also became more familiar with photoshop, which will help in future assignment. After multiple times, I became able to complete the steps mostly from memory.

Composition is how photographers frame their pictures. It has to do with the organization of the subjects in the frame of the photo. We used 11 different elements of composition. They were rule of third, pattern, symmetry, texture, depth of field, lines, color, framing, space, perspective, and balance. To best learn these strategies, we researched them and then went out to get some hands on experience practicing these techniques. From this assignment, I learned techniques on how to better handle a camera. I learned that you want to line things up on the grid so it's more aesthetically pleasing to the viewer. Also, if I hold down the shutter button half way, it'll focus on the subject better so I'll be able to tell how the picture will turn out more accurately. By focusing on the composition techniques, I also learned how to focus on certain aspects in pictures that work together to create a great photograph. All in all, this assignment just taught me certain ways to essentially take better pictures.
My name is Ashley Desimone, and I am a sophomore. I'm really interested in Spanish, and I love running. I run for the cross country team at Saline in the fall, and in the spring, I run track, usually 400s and 800s. I have two younger brothers and two dogs (a lab named Finn and a golden retriever named Georgia). I have most of my family in New York, so we take trips up to see them every summer. I moved from Georgia (hence my dog's name) last summer, so this is my second year in Saline.
I took this class because I've always had a thing for pictures and I wanted to see where I could go with it. Sometimes I'll be struck by something I see and automatically hold up my hands to make a box to see how it would look on camera. I love taking pictures of things and people; it just is something that makes me really happy. I found that it was a nice break from the daily grind of school and thought it was nice to take a break to do something I love during the chaotic school day. |
